I modified a Spectrum for a guy to use as analogue to digital controller for some industrial plant. Worked better than commercially available kit too!

At school, it was called a sliderule!

I seem to remember making a box with loads of potentiometers in it and a couple of voltmeters but it didn't take the world by storm!

i still have my ZX81 in the loft...

along with the wobly ram-pack and a 'programmable' joystick interface (you moved croc-clips around).

It's may still be worth what I originally paid for it!

I saw a ZX80 or ZX81 going for over £300 on ebay, it was still in its original box.

I still have a bbc micro that was my first computer from 1983 ish.....i highly modded it with ttl drivers feeding all sorts of led status indicators.i also built various analogue and digital data interfaces and learnt assembler and basic programming on it.

I also have an IBM pcat.....the original one with 5.25" floppies and a 20mb hard drive and an ega graphics controller......this was "rescued" from BAE Systems when i left after my apprentiship...it was placed aside as it was faulty.......i took it home,replaced the caps in the power supply and used it for years...it was worth a lot of money!

A sliderule....wow....i wonder how many members could actually use one!!....when i was at school the first mass produced scientific calculators were not long on the market.
My father had taught me to do powers and logs on a sliderule....not done so for a long time,but if i was given one i reckon i could just about figure it out!
Every drawing board at BAE systems had one rested on the rule and that was in 1985!
