Aye. I resisted getting a mobile for years, but do have to admit they are handy. Only problem is the whingers who think people are obligated to answer their phone anytime, due to it being mobile.

I have killed off three smart phones. They are way too fragile for what I need ,also a ballache to use with cold fingers so I have gone back to a tough phone. I use an Ipad for everything else while on the move.

Am I the only one with a hand-me-down* smart phone from adult offspring - but no contract? I currently have 16p of credit left from a 12 month 'free' contract that came bundled with the landline & broadband so still receive text messages. I don't make or receive calls on it, but I have been told that even without a contract I can still make 999 calls. Is that true?
I use the phone whenever there is a free WiFi signal for maps, Word, Excel, Kik(? little neices installed it and they send me text messages once a quarter or so - to check I'm still alive and fingers still work), interface the ELM thingy to talk cars via the OBD, myriad of variably useful apps; spirit level, compass, conversion factors, convert photo to pdf, to the most useful which is the calendar and alarm/reminder function linked to the Google Calender on the PC which is shared with the whole family.
All Clark's shoe-shops and Wetherspoons have free WiFi I've found.
*No2 son has a contract and a new phone every year. Last year's goes to No 3 son. Year before last goes from No3 son to No1 wife. Year before that goes from No1 wife to me - unless her brother or our nieces want to upgrade. Eventually when no-one else under the age of 85 in the entire extended family wants a new one I get it.

I've got an HTC desire 620, it crashes all the time and can't handle more than two simple apps open at once (Try using Spotify, Strava and C25K at the same time, as I often need toI have killed off three smart phones. ) but I drop it all the time and it only broke a few weeks ago when I had it in my back pocket and fell flat on my **** in the ice

I've gone for a combo of both; A rugged smartphone. Seems to be surviving well so far, including surviving the night I left it hung on a site scaffold.
Only weakness on mine is that the proximity sensor isn't great, so I have accidentally punted it into airplane mode a couple of times with my ear. Other than that though, a damn good phone for the price. It's an import affair, but built like a brick sh........

speaking of communication I was contacted last week to ask if I would take part in a survey regarding telephones and broadband for which they pay you £60 for your troubles, ok yes why not it took half an hour today and cheque will be in the post shame there isn't more of these id do it for a living

Funnilly enuf, I have one of those, but in water proof and shock resistant. After years of living with one in my ear, as it was easier to talk people through the probs than go there, I tried to do without one when I moved here. Wasn't going to work though, so I got a cheepy PAYG. BUT, texting was a right pain with the small buttons and shift and it died. So a few weeks ago I got a smart one with a monthly contract. Instructions with it were thick, but useless. It was a week before I could take incoming, simply because you have to swipe right to take a call. No indication about this, or any other useful bits in the book. I tapped the icon.. Nothing, tried swiping up, as that was the unlock method. It is probably a decent bit of kit, but why in the hell can't they give some info on how it works for basic functions?

Not being a smart aris, but get a kid to show you. My nieces are only young but are wizards on any of the electronic stuff. Failing that go on to youtube and enter your phone make and model and you will find out how to use it pretty quick. I was like you a few years back, wanted to do with out a mobile, but its very difficult.

My old man had a really old key pad phone..he wanted a new one but not to complicated. So myself and the Mrs took him to town and got a deal on a new phone. Touch screen and the usual stuff they put on them....Big mistake!!!! For weeks and weeks all I heard was this phone is totally useless!!!!! I can't do fall with it !!!! Look it will not work !!!!! Can't find f all on it !!!! My self and Mrs went through the phone several times and all was good.....but still the barage of abuse towards the phone....so I sat down with the cantankerous git and went through the phone step by step..and what did I find.....all that cursing and swearing he did......he had an eBay account and paypal set up....and the amount of stuff he had brought!!!!!

ive had a few phones but ive settled with the samsung s3 mini that i use now i like the video and recording software on it dont use apps or anything else on the phone
i do still have the 3210 phone and the 3330 phone as well as 3330I i prefer those to the blackberry storm but the samsung phone i do like but i keep things simple
