This morning, the works tig welder packed up. Tomorrow morning I will be driving to Leicester, then staying in the Huntingdon area (between Northampton and Cambridge) for several days until Saturday. Local repairs down here (Weymouth/Dorchester) could be pricey, as will be transport. My thoughts were, if there is somebody en-route along my journey who can do the job at reasonable cost, I may be able to throw the work at them.
The machine is a SIP Tig160 (Transformer) AC/DC.
Symptoms:
Whilst I was doing some Ally welding, the arc instantly died. Press the trigger, the relay clicks and gas is released fine, just with no sign of an arc. I will point out that the thermal overload light hasn't come on. I left it for 20 minutes and tried again...no joy. Flicked switches, tried on DC, tried without pedal, etc...no joy. Earth I believe is fine, as it doesnt usually allow gas through if it doesnt detect the earth connection.
I have been doing short runs at 120 Amps with lots of stops and starts.
I told the Bossman I will put some feelers out. Any takers on this?
