i bet it took longer for you to build it than it will take him to get in to it angle grinder and away it goes i know there are no tools alowed but dont think for a min that will stand long
on a seprate note can you not weld some spikes round the bottle to stop him from grinding it as the points close to the bottle should stop him from whacking grinding with pic of said bits saying any more than lock pick means braking the bottle ?

To be fair, if he takes a grinder to the locks I won't mind a whole lot. I know he won't cut the actual device. The thing is, he is pretty much as stubborn as I am (really rather stubborn
) so I suspect he will persevere with the lock picks so as not to give me the satisfaction of having to resort to his angle grinder.You're right though, it would be a fraction of the time it took me to make. But even if he did I wouldn't mind, still very much worth it.
I'll try to get a video of him opening it to show his reaction.

I was told how dock workers get brandy, sealed pallet, suspend from forklift, bucket underneath, ram upwards into centre of pallet from underneath with heavy steel bar, bottles break, collect brandy in bucket sieve with mutton cloth, load pallet onto ship for export, happy krimbo..no I wasnt a dock worker but knew someone who was.

Funnily enough, many years ago, my shift sup used to call me a thrawn wee............. well, this is a family friendly forum but you can probably guess!

@mpats Just had a thought, you could christen it 'The Irn Bru Tantalus' [for those of us 'daarn sarf', one of the Company's advertising slogans is/was "made in Scotland from girders"]
Better than "the device" certainly, and probably better than the Whisky chastity belt that I was thinking of going with.
And would work nicely as we gave him a proper Tantalus for his birthday this year, although we did include the keys with that one.
FYI Irn Bru is indeed made from Girders, how else do you think they manage to make it so orange

Well, I shall need to upload a video at some-point. I stopped recording after a few minutes. I think it took him about ten to get the wrapping off to see what the bottle is. He has also conceded that he will have to learn to pick locks, however it may be a bottle that is kept safe until his sons 18th. I quite like that idea.
Alas amazon did not deliver on their promise so I didn't have his lock pick set to bring, I will of course have to deliver it when it arrives.
Definitely worth the effort that went into making it.

I don't think there is anything rude contained, there is a small child in the room with us so we are being well behaved with language. Paul and I are now going to spend the weekend saying "have you not opened your present yet, you're so rude"! I stopped recording before he managed to fully unwrap it but you get the idea.
