The aldi/lidl digital calipers were a dead loss to me. Bought a few sets over the years and they all died very quickly. Where as the mitutoyos just kept on going. I suppose you get what you pay for in this world.

I have a Mitutoyo calliper that I bought at an AutoJumble 25 plus years ago and it was old at that time, I think it is a 500mm one but may just be 400. It had a problem in that the battery terminal had almost broken off so it was erratic at times. I removed the broken terminal and soldered a bit of brass in place and it works great and always has since I did that. I guess it must be 30 plus years old.
