When you turn left the load transfers to the right and the as you are turning left the right hand wheel will be rotating faster than the left

I've never found that to work until the wheel bearing has failed completely and I don't want this one to get that bad if I can help it.

Same here, I had a noisy rear passenger bearing on a Renault 21, it only got noisy above 80mph but there was no discernible movement in the bearing at all, changed the bearing and the problem was solved.

A method I've used to check front wheel bearings & CV joints in fwd cars is to put 1 wheel on a solid grass verge, apply the handbrake then spin the wheel while turning the steering from lock to lock.

Is it a live axle or independant? It could be a diff bearing - check your diff oil level, maybe drain & check for silvery bits! I knew a guy who changed both wheel bearings before he found out the problem was the diff!

I would make sure it's not tyre noise first. My dad had a noise in his Avensis that sounded like a wheel bearing but it was random & seemed to vary with a change in road surface. I was sure it was a tyre issue, dad was sure it was a wheel bearing - he even got his mechanic to check & change a bearing but the noise persisted. Then after a while he stopped complaining about the noise, funnily enough around the same time he fitted new tyres! But then he will keep fitting cheap tyres on the car, what can he expect!
