im doing body work on my car and im using 22 gauge steel patch panels and im looking for a electric welder and im trying to avoid in buying one that you have to put sheilding gas on the two im interseted in are from lincoln electric the first one is a weld pak feed welder model number k2188-1 this one can weld 18 gauge to 1/8 inch steel and its a gasless model now the guy at the store said i could use this one. so i bought it and i dont know if it was the way i was welding or the woung welder for the job but i kept burning holes now the other one that im looking at is the lincoln electric wed pak 100hd model number k2189-1 and this one can be used with or with out gas and it can weld 24 gauge to 1/4 inch steel. it has a setting chart on the lift lid and from 20 gauge to 1/4 can be welded with or with out gas but from 24 to 22 gauge you use sheilding gas is possible to weld 22 gauge steel with ether of these welders with out using gas or will i have to use gas
