Which vice

Hi,
I am now in the possession of two record 112 heavyduty vices ,one being ductile iron the other cast steel ,which one do you think would be best to hold on to ? Not practical to keep both .

Sell both for £££££ and buy something more sensible. Have you seen the price of them?!? Thats two thousand quid sitting there. Four thousand to a collector!

I use a cheapy 5" Lidl vice, it cost about 20 pounds and has taken a lot of abuse.

looking at the handles the bottom picture is the older vice

The top picture looks like a 112p that has been modified to quick release

They're southern prices, more money than sense Darn Sarf, Kram does come from Sussex..............

I had a reasonable look... Couldnt see much less than a grand.. Older ones, from before Irwin took over Record are likely worth a lot more and of higher quality, from what I read.

Ofcourse only worth, what somone is willing to pay. If I wanted to spend a lot on a vice it would be a high precision, ground, milling vice which would be far better quality than these cast lumps of overpriced turd

No modification, both quick release and made in England they changed the design of the nose on later models.

Realistically, there's no functional difference between the cast steel versions and the later SG Iron versions. I'd keep whichever feels nicest.

Just out of interest, do they weigh the same?

I had a feeling the "P" was present in the casting pattern for the dynamic jaw and was therefore present on all the castings. It just got ground off the castings that were used for the quick-action versions.
