Which Tig touch for Gys Gysmi 130p?

Unfortunately, the order has already been shipped, and would be too much hassle to send back. It's also a cracking price. Just hope the quality is as good as it looks in the images.

I'll stick with my apologies for missing the messages before purchasing and go with my selected touch.

You can get new gas cylinders for around £60 returnable deposit (+ first fill cost); Hobbyweld, somewhere like that. Gas Control Equipment is different the World over; different cylinder connections, fill pressures, outlet connections etc.

That particular torch has a push button on it that is neither use nor ornament for your machine model. Cable assembly is also very stiff & not great in use. It will do your job though

I don't think it does. I specifically avoided the model with the switch (WP17F), and a ordered the one with a gas valve in its place (WP17V).

If you're looking at the larger (exploded view) picture below, I think that is a standard image, which is not indicative of the one I purchased.

I take the point about the potential stiffness of the cable though. Have to wait and see how that goes.

I just like simplicity and if an ultimate solution is up for grabs for a 1 off price that's where I'd be going. That's just me though. I'm not interested in saving £10 if it means I'm gonna be up and running by the end of the week.

Okeydoke. Just remember Parweld off loading some of those torches with an Inverter machine deal sometime ago & they came fitted with switches, which didn't suit the machine they were supplied with. Still got a stack. The connections are the important part, if they fit your machine jobs a good un.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll keep an eye out when it arrives, and complain muchly if it's wrong.

The connector should be correct. Again, ignore the large picture. The one I ordered should have a 10/25 dinse connector.

Yeah, I totally get that. But I can't use it until everything arrives anyway, and I have consumables coming from China. So there's no rush.

Also need to sort out gas and some metal I can quickly turn into scrap.

Probably going a little off topic now, but I'm hesitant to start 100 threads.

Is there such a thing as a general purpose tungsten?

To rephrase, which one should I start with that will work on all the cra&&y bits of metal I pick-up to practice on?

You will get on fine with 80% of them. Avoid zirconiated (white) and pure (green). These are AC tungstens only. Thoriated (red) or lathanated (gold/blue) will be spot on for your needs.

If you are a novice or inexperienced, go to a trade welding supplier.

If you know what you are doing (or think you do like me) then you might buy from the net. I would not personally as I believe in supporting the trade suppliers. And their knowledge is current.

Welding is taken for granted-it can be (is) a hazardous process.

The gases for MIG and TIG are inert, but under high pressure and controlled by the regulator so make sure you get a decent one.

Steve sells Gys kit and decent stuff for the DIY/small business bloke and you will get advice.

Don't buy "secondhand" bottles, if the UK is same as here, the bottles are serial numbered, you cannot get a refill unless you are registered with the gas supply company??

Scrotes nick bottles, use them, then dump them, if you buy one and take for a refill, Inspector Clouseau will want to know where you got it from-might be different in the UK but wherever I am, I would not buy a bottle off a bloke.

You'll triple that with TIG, but its nice to have it in your box of tricks once you have got the basics.
