Quick view installs on my machines but never shows any drives. Its possible its because I have no WD internal drives but not sure.
Its also possible its because mine is My Cloud Home and yours is My Cloud. I was not aware there were two different ranges till after I purchased.
I do see similar icons to you but only when I create a new back up and the NAS is not showing.
Yes i can browse in my computer and upload files to the NAS that way but its weird acronis does not see the NAS.
I will have a look at other software and see if that sees it.
It does give me the opportunity to download a WD version of true image so i will try that..
Thats the weird part. It shows a NAS option but nothing shows when selecting it.
It also does not allow you to select ok as its greyed out.
it does expand but only to the public folder...this is why I am confused. If it was a WD program I could understand it more but the fact they have nothing in common yet seem selective..
No worries mate....you have helped enough. I keep updating the thread so if others see it they will also see the solutions..........for example without spare PC's to test it would have been easy to blame issues on the new PC on Network problem or the banned IP on the router.
But once i put my laptop on hard wired it proved it had to be the new PC.
Its easy to forget older installs have all the new updates....SP1 and .net already installed alobg with other programs.
Reading up on things it appears that My Cloud Home is not as configurable as My Cloud. But until you read up its not easy to understand they are two different products. I was even trying to install MyCloud programs until i realised......
The biggest issue i have is "gut feeling" . Creating a backup to the computer and then copying it to the NAS does seem glitchy. Nothing glaring but for example using move left. The original on the computer. Not what i expected....but True Image does not like me moving it...i have to over ride a security message.
I dont want to spend loads chasing backup programs but @fizzy suggested macrium reflect and its free to clone a drive but seems to say it has to be identical hardware.
I will be dropping some hole cutters of to @MattH shortly so i might be able to pick his brains about backup as he used to do that for a living...

That is certainly one good thing about Acronis, it will resize partitions etc as it goes. In fact I have just completed a clone from my C drive to a new SSD I just received this morning and it did it all whilst I was still using my C Drive and browsing the net etc. You used to have to close windows to do that with Acronis but since, I think Acronis 2017, it has been possible to do it live.
macrium reflect will work with any drive. No problem cloning a 500gb to a 4tb for example. It will also resize partitions etc.
Works in a similar way!
In fact all the live ones use windows volume shadow copy service so they all do pretty much the same.
Clonezilla works at a much lower level - very useful for forensic type drive cloning etc. Also very useful when you want to backup a server if windows volume shadow copy is no longer running.

I did actually mean the free version of Reflect seems to only do identical hardware.
The paid for seems to do a hell of a lot more though..
Whats the best to copy/backup a partition as opposed to a drive.
My back up will likely be to save to My Cloud Home if i can get my head round mapping network drives. My attempts so far seem to fi d folders to map not drives or partitions. .lol

I prefer to back up whole drives/partitions as I can then copy them back and the drive is exactly the same as it was. This is especially true for the main drive that contains the OS etc. It means if your drive dies you can slap in another and restore to it and be back up and running in a short space of time.

i do same as hood prefer to do the whole thing than do files and folders
the main thing i do on a new install is complete everything installed on all programs and everything else thats needed also the new ones that i liked are also placed on the new backup that im creating
however those files and folders are backed up onto another hard drive as i transfer them there myself
