Well, I said free standing storage area as its not quite a mezzanine floor.
Ive got a workshop that has lots of wasted space up high, its 4 metres to the pitch and Ive run out of space.
The idea is to make something in the back corner which I can store various car parts and junk on, I'd like to make it out of box section but unsure what to use
Size is:
4.2m wide
4.9m long
2.4m high
I though 50mm box would be ok for legs with some pre drilled plates welded on the bottom to hilt in to the floor
The only snag is the spans being fairly long and unsupported
the sides and back can have legs every metre but the front needs to be 4.2m open
what would be the best material(s)
Was thinking 80x40 for the long span at the front edge but would this be springy?
what sort of loading would something like this take?
I dont intend to put too much heavy stuff up there, it will mostly be what gets stripped from cars prior to restoration, but a few doors and bumpers can soon add up so need 250kg of weight up there at a guess
Any help appreciated, will try and get picture but my camera is on the blink
