Which Graphics card should be better?

Got the Graphics card today from @eLuSiVeMiTe
Vid showing the rendering, first with the 640 4Gig and second part with the 1030 2Gig

the 640 4gb to the 1030 2 gb there will be a difference in clocking and also its tmings
as much as which type of card you are using

for the mere mortals to computers its a mindfield for us who build them its a nightmare trying to explain the differences in which machine to go for
game system to office system to home system

It's a nightmare even if you're trying to build one.

Although I did have a system at my previous job where it was simple - simply tick the most expensive box on Dell's server configurator... I do miss that machine. Although my old boss who I sat next to at the time used to complain every time he went into the server room and I was running my analysis suite because he couldn't hear anything and the ambient temperature was up just a hair under 10 degrees compared to normal (that particular server room wasn't designed as a server room from the offset so didn't quite have adequate air conditioning). Not bad a for a 1U server.

Resurrecting an old thread...mainly because my grandsons GPU has stopped working so need a swift replacement.
What's half decent without making me fall over.
He plays fortnight and a couple of car racing Sims. Nothing spectacular.

so id be looking at the gb on a card at a low cost

i think ccl is open but not sure

these are pci and you didnt say if you wanted pci gcards

I'd suggest looking at the recommended specs for both games. Aim for the recommended for decent performance

Well this lockdown makes it awkward to diagnose things.
Sounded like GPU was at fault but new GPU does the same. Leads all changed so looks like it's mobo.
However my son thinks it might be software related now.

Much easier when you can see how it responds in real time. Works for a few mins then shuts down apparently......need to get it here now I think. At least I have a spare GPU and grandson has a better one than he had.....when I get it running again.

Well I got it here and it did not work. He had only plugged one of the power plugs into the GPU but reckoned it worked for a few mins and shut dow

I plugged in second power lead and it ran fine all night.
I installed the latest drivers and it seems fine.
To be honest he only has to go near a PC and it throws a wobbly.......it's been a standing joke for years.

Yes it was showing on the screen it was connected but says check connection.

I suppose a failing GPU would seem the same as one without all its power leads.....so it does make sense.

Has he got a decent psu with plenty of rails?
No good having a beefy gpu if it's sucking all it's power from one rail

No and yes....

I have purchased Assetto Corsa sim for my grandson and installing it now to test it.

I must admit those two plugs are on the same rail...lol

That's the issue then mate. Psu won't last long when gaming it needs to be separate rails and caused my rig to crash before it went bang

What graphics card was in it in the first place? There was a time when people would completely over spec psu's if you only have one graphics card you wont ever need more than 600 watt. pci bus will supply 75 watt and most mid range graphics cards will only need a single 6/8 pin from the psu.

Depends on the PSU, most these days are back to unified rails anyway to stop issues like that.

Seems like you might be right.
All 6 of the pins that fit the GPU are on one lead out of the PSU.

Yes the one that was in it was a
GTX 1050 ti but only has 3 pins for power.

My (bitter) experience of failing GFX cards is that in the spring, when the weather warms up, all the dust and fluff collected over the last few years overheats them and cooks the chips. Spring cleaning for me now includes using the compressor to blow through the PCs, laptops, consoles and console power supplies (again, I learnt that one the hard way). A soft brush on the fan blades first helps. It might be me experience tainting my memory but I hear of lots of failing pc hardware in early summer.

corsair is fine to use
its also a multiwire out one is direct to the gpu

check that power supply fan, mine was facing down like yours

not enough space on carpets will burn out, fine on wood floors but not carpeted floors

ive already had to strip a few powers supplys due to being full of dust and crap in them, there out of garantee though so makes no difference

Was surprised to see the PSU at the bottom. Does it not have mountings for a top mount too.

As gaz said. Has 4 rails plus main board. Spread the load over the 4
