Which gas for all round MiG welding?

Is it possible to use one type of gas for MiG welding? I mainly do steel work, some with gasless as it's outdoors, but I also intend on doing some aluminium and possibly some stainless steel work. Can I use just argon for the lot? Or, do I really, absolutely have to use argon mix for steel and pure argon for aluminium (I know I have to use pure argon for the aluminium).

You could probably get away with pure argon but you'll get tall, ugly welds on steel and I'm not sure what the results would be on stainless.
Why don't you have a go and see how you get on? It won't do any harm to experiment.

Ah, it looks like I'll be focusing on argon/co2 mix over pure argon. I don't have much aluminium work so I might even look at using those ally soldering rods instead. There is no structural ally to do, it is purely patching up work on Land Rover bodywork.
