which engine in landy

which would you consider to be the best engine in a 110 landy for general on road driving most of the time and the occasional bit of off roading on slushy muddy fields?

A few years ago one of the LR mags decided to dispel the myth about unreliable, expensive to run P38's and bought one to prove it.
After spending a lot of money replacing steering, braking, gearbox etc. over a few issues it was never mentioned again
