Just to warn you if you haven't had one before. They are terrible family vehicles. Infact they arnt much good at anything. Pickups Excell at doing lots of things badly.
They can carry 5 people (with a lack of comfort and lack of room for those in the rear)
They can go off-road (not as well as a shorter SUV with coil springs)
They can tow ( not as well as an SUV or a big van and tend to be wallowy due to the distance from rear axle to tow hitch)
They can carry stuff (not aswell as a van, either drop side or panel. They are a pig to get stuff out of with a canopy fitted I don't know why gullwing canopy's are so rare over here)

They have terrible turning circle are too long to be handy in a car park and terrible on fuel.

If you need to do all those things they are absolutely great.
Of you only need to do 1 or 2 of those things there is undoubtedly a better vehicle available.

The amarock is awfully underpowered in 2.0 trim

The 180s go like absolute stink with a dpf delete and a remap
Nah I'm serious. Absolute beasts.
Flat as a pancake standard though.
Brothers is remapped but still got dpf and it feels good but not as strong nor as economical as mine was.

I had a Wildtrak 2.0 bi turbo with 10 speed box as my company car ( as in directors tax efficient transport ).
Loved it, it drove really nicely , I liked the high up driving position. Was handy when shifting pallets of bolts etc around . Could get up to 40 mpg if taking it steady on a run.
Downsides were the lower spreed limits , no real security in the back if lugging tools around.
i think I went off-road in it once, didn’t want to wreck it, was more of a pavement princess really.
Overall it scratched a itch as I always wanted one, but traded it in for the EV I drive now ( and due to the stupid state of 2nd hand market hardly lost a thing financially )

Have you heard about the oil pump not priming after an oil change. Apparently several engine's have been wrecked because of it.

I have a 2yr old Navara, I find it acceptable comfort wise and I came form a XF Jaguar prior to it. The Nav's from 2019 have rear coil springs so a lot move civilised. Its got car play, cruise, heated seats etc so just like a car and its pretty quiet apart from if you gun it. I chuck stuff in the back like bits of tree for fire wood, lawm mower, rubbish for a trip to the dump, also use it as a working platform when I am cutting my hedge . Back seat seats are fine, not a limo but ok apart from being a bit upright. It a big bgger to park but it has 360 degree cameras so I get a birds eye view of whats going on. Fuel eccnomy is diabolical .... lucky to get 30 mpg except for on the motorway. Main thing for me is I love driving it, high seating position, dont worry about snow or floods (within reason) also dont worry about kerbs and pot holes.

The re-enactment community had a fad for these a few years back. They lasted half a season, Bloody useless. Can't get enough gear in them. Nowhere to carry your tent poles, Crap off road, As said before, Rubbish at towing anything. Most of us are on transits with trailers and the odd old landrover.

Thanks for the feedback,she will be the main driver,but there will be occasional off road necessities,and on course if it’s a long trip to collect some big lump of steel/wood,then we all go and just maybe the 19’ flat bed.
Neither of us are fussed about gadgets,so the more basic the better.
Of course my 3 boys will love it,just don’t mention it yet,or we’ll be constantly nagged at.
Do any have selectable 2/4wd ?

Think everything has selectable 2wd 4wd. And 4wd low.

Don't know on what has diff locks etc.

Poverty spec Hilux and off-road sepc ranger have difflocks everything else is limited slip

L200 has super select gearbox that can be run in 4wd on tarmac. Nothing else can.

. So economical,nice seats, comfy, air con, cruise control and all the toys. Whats it to be?

Just about any car made in the last 5 years seems to cover those boxes.
But in all honesty the new shogun sport. A landcruiser a discovery, kia Sorento, Hyundai Santa fai are all better family cars than a pickup.
I love my truck but my wife has a proper car and I cannot begin to explain how much of a pain the load bed can be with a canopy on. Having to crawl in the back with the tailgate in the way. The Americans get barn door tailgate options.
If I had a canopy I would love one of these but cost nearly as much as my truck is worth.
It removes the tailgate and make a single car style lift up door.

Depending on budget, the new shap Mussos are defo worth considering. Well specced, can carry the weight and tow as all the others, but a noticeably smaller footprint than all the other trucks. Sure, its a Ssanyong, but they have come a long way.

If a bit older/less money, it would have to be a D-max.

Meanwhile, i need to find a nice 80 series Landcruiser.............................................
