Which cut-off saw for the hobbyist?

not having a pop at you buddy. Just the fact that so many actually believe this stuff, I am wondering how many edits it took to sort that joint as it certainly wasn't done real time as a first off

I'm happy with the rave. Not much sparks. It's almost sparkless on soft mild steel angle.
They also do wood with the same blade. So it's a win win in my book for a hobby saw

I think this is were they win out for occasional cutters of steel along with other stuff

Ime on the lookout for one of these to convert to use metal cutting discs...cheap to buy iff you find an old one and super accurate just by its design and fine depth cutting too with the top revolving screw action on the pull out arm

Pity I didn't know earlier, I sold one earlier in the year, I have another but I'm keeping that one for wood.

Buy that Makita tct saw that is for sale on here. Even with a botched blade it is good value. I have the dewalt version and it's awesome. I use it outside always.

I think it's a case of weighing up pros and cons and selecting from there based on the type of use.
If your planning to cut lots of material quickly and you have the facility to not pee people off with noise etc then a little chop saw might be just the ticket.
If noise is an issue and you don't mind hanging on a bit longer for a higher quality cut then a horizontal bandsaw is more suitable. I have both now and unless I need to take the saw to the job I'll use the bandsaw every time.
The extra time taken to cut dose not matter to me as I just set it off and go do something else come back to find it finished and shut down.
Horses for courses I say.

I was more more excited than a Kid at Christmas.

It is a Warco CS250, single phase, 250mmØ.

It is second hand but completely unused........removed from a school when it became an academy. Which is good for me , but not for our next generation.

Ironically, due to a mate letting me down I had to continue using the old Sealey SM2254 cold cut saw all day today, and it wasn't until around 5.30 pm this afternoon that I was in a position to swap the saws over. The new Warco CS 250 is now in place: all 131 kg of it, which I had to manually move on my own! Tomorrow morning I'll wire it in, and do a couple of commissioning cuts, and then it will be used to cut some tubing and other steel for a magicians magic trick. On Monday it has to cut the material for a production run of 18 Cargo Cycles Pallet bars, and then on Tuesday it has to cut the material for a production run of another 24 of them, along with the tubing & steel for another regular on going job. On Wednesday I have a job going through the workshop which is made from 3 pieces, but there's 180 units of them to cut, mitre, bend and weld all in one day so they are ready for the galvanizers.

It looks unused. Part of me is pleased for you, picking up such a great piece of kit at (presumably) a good price. But then I'm torn that we put equipment like this into a school and then don't use it.

But that's politics, and we're not allowed to talk about that so enjoy

I nearly ruined a recent small project because I wasn't able to cut accurately enough with my angle grinder. So, I've been looking at the Evolution Rage 2 and Rage 4 chop saws. There's about £80 difference in price, and I'd like to keep that in my pocket. But given that it'll probably be the only chop saw I ever buy, if an extra £80 gives me real benefits, then it's worth it. Is this a case of bigger is better? Or are there real practical reasons to buy the smaller model?

I was in screwfix the other day and they were selling replacement blades for the £50 Rage chopsaw that I bought - £38 for the blade

Always the way. I bought 2 aluminium oxide wheels for my bench grinder which come to nearly the cost of the grinder itself.

I'll dig out the invoice for the ones I got off eBay (reputable seller and genuine blades) they were much cheaper than that! I'll post the info when I find it.

Bamford trading on eBay - £36 for 2 blades for my evolution 3s saw. They were on offer when I got them but they are £24 each now, still not a bad price.
