which bench grinder?

Now i have the lathe could use a better bench grinder for tool steel ,6" or 8"wheels (wider the better)..with some grunt !....sub £60 would be ideal can anyone recommend something half decent at this price ?will buy suitable wheels seperatley .Thanks Gav

Recently bought one of these:
Sealey Pro 200mm 8" Bench Grinder 240v 560w BG200XL/98
Obviously of far eastern manufacture, but seems ok for the money, and plenty of grunt. Paid £65 delivered off the bay

They'll all be made in the Far East unless you pay loads, buy the highest wattage and well known brand you can.

This is something I'm also looking for. Never found a modern bench grinder that doesn't just stop when you try to do some serious work ! A few years ago a mate asked me to have a look at his Black & Decker , it didn't work and he wanted to know if was terminal or a repairable fault. Turned out it was the mains switch , I replaced that and it was perfect. Thing is , it was the best grinder I've ever used apart from industrial grade . 3 phase types. Was probably late 60's - mid 70's , 1000 watt motor , 6" wheels and was unstoppable even if you tried deliberately !!
Wish I could find one or one like it !!

I remember the wheels in the fettling shop at the foundry, 2 foot diameter by 2" wide and the fettlers would smack the castings against them as they were on piece work!

The 430w Rexon is surprisingly good for the money. Not a patch on old British machines but smoother/better balanced and more grunt than an 8" clarke. The 8" sip listed a few posts back looks like a bigger version of the Rexon- guards, construction etc look identical...

Homeandworkshop.co.uk are listing several Elliot selecta grinders at £65 at the mo. Might be 3 phase motors though?

Ye, I wasn't sure on that, a bit far to go and check as well.

£250 is a lot. I wondered if he'd part some of it out and make it cheaper. Seems like he thinks the mop and polish is worth a bit.
