hi try a butters 140 inverter as far as i am concerned they are the best thing since sliced bread very easy to use compaired to a old air or oil cooled arc . with very little practice you will soon be welding your railings etc
Yup, managed to buy that Oerlikon oil-filled (probably) one. I'll give it a bash anyways. If I need to I can always upgrade to an inverter later on and sell that one for the same price.
Can't wait now.
All I need now are some welding rods. Where's the best place online?... or does anyone know anywhere in Aberdeenshire that sells good branded ones?
I have one of those and it works a treat. It's much easier to strike an arc than with a transformer based arc welder. But I use my inverter for thinner metal than you say you want to weld. I figure that on close to 20 amps, the inverter will stay cool, is under minimum stress and might hopefully last longer. I wouldn't want to 'risk' it at maxiumum current output (75 amps). It will probably be OK but why take the risk in terms of the unit's longevity?
At the higher powers needed for railings or anything like that I would use my transformer based arc welder. This cost only £20 brand new (normally £45) and goes from about 45 - 130amps.
