Where's the cheap 15w40 currently?

Last time I bought oil I just went to euro car parts or somewhere and bought 25l.

Now its all gone shrinkflation, down to 20l, and the cost of a kidney.

Just want some every day 15w40 for the landrover 300tdi.

Someone here will know somewhere, I'm sure!

I only buy 208ltr drums for the workshop - but oil prices went up - some tech grades doubled per litre.

There was shortage of 5/30w for a while. These were premium price when the shortage was on.

But prices are falling a bit now - not allot - but they are falling...

Barrels of oil - normally follow the price of diesel and heating oil - percentage wise - unless there is shortage of one grade from production problems with German refiners....

I always used to bulk buy in the summer (wholesale barrels to other garages). Up until covid - supply stopped (we were not sure how much we would sell). I now only buy when I need some...

I dont tend to drive at -10c, so im happy to follow Landrover's specification for 15w40.

I've been using Mannol oils off ebay, there is a 20% sale on, of course they put the prices up so its only about 5% cheaper.

I recently bought some 5w40 millers trident, and funnily enough paddocks of all places were cheapest by a mile, four of their 5L cans were better than a 20L drum from anywhere else.
Even better with a discount code.

Some motorcycles I service now the oil is knocking on £100 for a 4l tub!.

Interestingly my local autofactors is £50 for a 5L jar of 5w30. But a 20L box genuine Mercedes 5w30 from dealer is £80+VAT. So works out 50% cheaper to buy the genuine oil from dealership.

I am buying a lot of drumed oil of late from Ford dealers (Motorcraft plus branded Castrol).

Plus drums of Quantum oil from TPS - VAG group

It really bugs me that a lot of oil is sold in 20L these days. One place I use asked the rep why, he said it was because of handling and weight. Strange thing is he didn't have an answer as to why antifreeze sizes hadn't changed given antifreeze is heavier.

10w40 is the new 15w40 just like 15w40 was the new 20w50.

Whatever the most common oil is will be the cheapest, there was a time where 5w30 cost more than 15w40 but now 5w30 is so common it's one of the cheapest oils out there even fully synth.

I've used Westway, next day delivery, can't fault them. Bought everything from ISO15 jack oil to engine oil. I bought Mannol when on a deal, 2x 20L 5w30 delivered for £70

For 5w30 Costco is pretty good, I think 20L is £47, they used to do 10w40 as well.

I use Euro Car Parts for quite a few bits but their oil always seems well expensive.

It's funny how when you read a car forum or Facebook group people will have have you believe you need XYZ but if you read the owners manual it will often show a full range of oil grades.

10-14 years back I had a couple of Volvo T5, daily driven pretty hard and covering a lot of miles. All the groups were talking about Mobil 1 and all these other fancy oils, I ran 15w40 multifleet mineral oil, was listed in the handbook(back then 205L was like £140), I changed it between 4K and 5K without fail. I sold the 850 T5 estate with 316K miles and it ran absolutely perfectly, the guy only bought it for the wheels but said it was one of the best cars he'd ever driven.

Current Volvo is listed at 0w30 but that commands a premium, I rarely drive less than 40mins so I run 5w30, car is now on 230K with no issues.
