If you can weld then a Disco may be a better choice. But you need to know what you are looking for in terms of rust. That is why they are much cheaper than a Defender.

if youv got a few quid in the bank i do actually recommend the newer disco 3 they start from £6k alot of motor for the money

I have two series and a disco td5. In my experience it is low cost motoring. The disco has the coil conversion so no expensive suspension issues. There is a td5 for sale in my local rag this week for £1500. 90s and 110s are relatively expensive.

Series are my favourite but make sure you test drive one first as they are different

As you enjoy welding, get a project series with some chassis holes on the cheap and have some fun.
