Where to go for a 30 second job? (Near Guildford)

Hi guys,

I'm not a welder, but I hope you don't mind me posting here because I'm looking for one!

I need a 2 inch bracket welded back onto the part it's fallen off. I don't know much about welding but a friend tells me it should be just a couple 'tack welds' and should only be a minute or two's work. The only quote I've got so far is £100 which seems a bit steep to me!

As such, I was thinking about trying to take it to a car garage or similar where they can weld and might be willing to do it as a quick side-job in return for a crate of beer or something.

Any suggestions of where to look? Other than garages, what other places are likely to have trained welders?

Alternatively, if any of you guys are near Guildford and could help out that would be amazing!

What is the bracket made from and what is it off of?
Your quote of £100 is very steep but it tells me that whoever you asked simply didn't want the job.
I'm sure someone on here would like to help you out for a few beer tokens, there's plenty of members in your neck of the woods.

I Agree hopefully a local member here will be able to help you out, £100 is a lot of money for a few tacks.

i often get people pop round who want bits welded or tacked, and really it only takes a few minutes, The last old boy to call round was about 80 odd and wanted a few bits of flat tacked together to make a packer, when i finished he went to give me a tenner i told him dont be daft and sent him on his way, Bless him

An hour later he came back with a box of roses

if its not too difficult then you'll probably find someone who will do it for you, can't believe that quote of £100 thats just crazy
