where to get quality pillar drill

im on the market for 2 quality pillar drills and a quality record or similar 6-8'' vise among other tolls,is there anywhere you could recommend other then ebay to find such things? im allos on the lookout for a Harrison lathe,all advice welcome

Schools tend to throw out good stuff and you could try local machinery auctions. Dealers tend to be pricey, I've seen drills priced at £400 that have gone for £100 on Ebay.

yes but im located in ireland so the schools sell to the dealers only pretty much unless your lucky,im not lucky ill keep trawling the bay of dung though cheers

It sound like you need a trip to England. There have been plenty of Harrison on eBay recently. Mostly 3 phase and the prices are the same as an ml 7 super. I'm presuming it's due to transportation and workshop size

i guess so and i like the harrison mill i have so im a bit soft on them lol,is there better for the money?

I don't think so, currently on the ebay its around a grand depending on the model £1500 for an M300, which is better than paying the same for a myford super 7 £1200. its the transport that's gonna cost. a myford will get away with being in a large estate or transit, but i'd expect a 7.5t flatbed would be the minimum for a larger harrison.


I'm a little lower on spare pennies at the moment, but i thought for the size a myfprd would do me, but looking at the prices, a larger lathe is just not that much more and can do alot more and i can find the extra space. Just finances stopping me, but i have been looking

A lathe that size is easily carried on a mid-sized plant trailer and towed by a larger car; a lot cheaper and easier to deal with than a 7.5 tonner.

Keep your eyes open on Donedeal & gumtree, lathes, drills & vices appear occasionally on there. There is a machinery dealer called Harrison Bros located in Longford who always keep a good stock of used lathes, etc. Might be worth calling them, they might do a deal for all your wants.

you have to be careful with the plated rating of the GTW on the car. Mose large cars are only plated upto 750KGs now. you'll need a Landy, hilux, l200 or a double axle transit.

Really?? So everyone towing a caravan is exceeding their car's towing limit?

I don't think so.
All the Jaguars we've had recently (X200/308/358) have been rated around 1900kgs, and that's LOW for a large car.
Son just bought an elderly M-B estate partly because it's 'plated' at 2150 kgs.
