Where to get metal nr Wakefield

Sorry if this is wrong section but was struggling to find best place,

I'm getting to the point were my trike is nearly done (welding wise anyway) but i'm struggling to get some sheet metal for the side panels, left my number with a few places but no one gets back or is willing to cut it in half or supply smaller bits

I'm after some sheet steel 2mm by about 1000 x 2000 (either cut in 2 or 2 smaller sheets) or possibly a smaller sheet of chequer plate

I use metals 4 u in pontefract.

They will do those sizes.

i go to a place down thornes industrial estate they have it on the shelf and cut it for me to whatever size i needed with their guiloteen also had quite alot of off cuts behind the machine when i was their last . peter hope steel in batley does good prices our railing guy near work buys from him gets good prices . could you buy a sheet and cut it yourself 2mm isnt undoable

Mentalsupermarkets, there is one at Gildersome, maybe one nearer you. They specialise in smaller quantities, a bit pricey though.
Peter Hope only does whole quantities.

I mean full lengths, they will cut them up for you though. Be careful to ring the correct number as there are two departments, the most popular on Google is the fabrication side as opposed to just supply.
Yes they do delivery, steel prices are very good.

Long lengths are no problem so long as I don't have to buy a ton of the stuff!

Yes they are still there, ok for heavy and rusty (nothing is undercover).

Sourcing metals is quite easy if one isn't bothered about the sources being local, but costs rocket with postage. So, what most of us want (I assume) is to pick up the metal we want from the stockist nearby.

Also, I suspect we don't always feel like buying full lengths, but just the metal we require for a project.

I also live near Wakefield, and this morning have spent some time trying to fathom who locally I can call on to pick up some 5mm mild steel plate I require for my project.

About 15 minutes ago I found this thread, which gives some names.

This is my current understanding:

As to costs: I'm seeking 5mm plate about 28cm x 46cm. On Ebay costs about £11, but with postage £18. Heck of a lot of money for the plate.

the place down thornes industrial estate is most likely ism or whatever its called now as its halved its sized in the last few years, I got a sheet from them awhile back it was expensive but they cut it to size for nothing, they had a fair amount of off cuts though cant harm to pop in and see if theres anything usefull to you,

morley waste traders (the albert road depot, near the train station) is a good scrappy for offcuts.
