I never seem to find any decent scrap steel. It is usually just car stuff.
Try a decent steel stock holder and see if they will sort you out some offcuts.

Use google to find steel stockholders and fabricators ... and then go round with packets of cakes or hobnobs ..Chocolate Hobnobs ....

You're wanting offcuts of good steel rather than actual scrap, I assume?
