So heres the story, one of the lads I work with did some vert up 316 25mm plate with 308 solid wire by mistake, its all single vee n air arced back. He had filled and capped the V before anyone realised he had 308 in. As it was due to get PMI'd I was told to arc the cap off and re-cap with 316. Then carry on as planned, so then arced back the other side DPI it and it came back clear! So filled and capped...
All was good and well untill it was UT'd today and the whole lot dipped! The guy said it was LOF 8-10mm in... I was told to arc back 10+2grinding, dpi again nd still showing 2 red lines down it! Took it back about 18mm in total and its nearly clen now the poor lads been getting hell over it, hes only young but he is good, iv been protesting its the 308 thats caused the defects nd NOT his ability as a welder. All his work is good and neat and to have 100% go down makes me think it must be the cock up with the grade of wire...? God I hate fridays!
Thoughts on this please
