Where can I buy Alfa 147 sills?

Decided to give the bonnet a miss for now, especially as there are more important areas of the car to concentrate on.

Both outer sills are rusty in parts, I haven't investigated very deeply yet but just incase they need replacing I looking for a supplier.

Have tried eBay and Google and not a lot has come up. Plenty of bumpers and grilles around but no sills that I can find

you probably have three options.

patch the sills, make a profile up and replace or go to a main dealer and loose your arm and leg and get a replacement

It looks like I'm going to end up patching them. Doesn't look a hard part to make and can be made from 2 quite simple profiles but would have preferred to just cut what I needed from a pre formed sill and weld that in

The places I used to use only list bumpers etc, stealers will probably sell them but at a cost, what about second hand?

Only need a battery recip at the scrappys then sort it at home

I think going from the Megane to an Alfa is probably a step up in reliability

Isn't the best way to get Alfa parts just to follow another Alfa?

Hi, try taking a profile with a piece of card and checking it on other cars. You could find another car that has a similar profile which is more readily available.

I've got an Alfa 147, and if the sills go on mine I'll just scrap it and buy another one. They are cheap enough and don't hold their value too well. I would price up the repairs and make a decision to throw the money at it or spend the same money buying a slightly newer one which doesn't have tinworm.

he did but stopped using it as there wasn't enough needed doing to it, now he has the alpha there is electrical work and welding

Not quite accurate, the megane is currently due to be sold tomorrow, and there is plenty wrong with it. I have to try and get it started in the morning and hope it still runs the way it did last time I drove it.

The Alfa is a huge step up in reliability. It hasn't put a foot wrong so far, it starts first time every time, it doesn't cut out or veer off in random directions for no reason, it's quiet, relatively quick and good fun to drive.

Only problems with it are the boot (think I've found the issue now), the dump valve needs cleaning/replacing as it sticks a bit when i want to press on a bit ( it's also getting better by itself so might leave it) and the minor few bits of rust that actually need sorting like the small patches on the sills and there is a bit On the floor but that looks like a wire brush should sort it.

For a £300 car I'm very pleased with it and if it lasts me until it's mot in July then it has earned its money and I will probably sell it for a 16v replacement anyway.

dump valve ? or do you mean waste gate on turbo

What's the difference between a dump valve and a waste gate?

The fault code that comes up when it sticks is overboost valve and when the code is up there is a huge drop in power and it won't Rev over 3k in limp mode

Is that the 1.9 16v diesel engine?
Check all of the vacuum pipes very carefully, I had similar problems with my Zafira (same engine)
It was the small pipe from the vacuum pump to the waste gate solenoid, a very small split right next to the pump on the underside .

Dump valve is the thing boy racers add so you get a good hiss from engine on deceleration, the waste gate stops the turbo spinning right up when open it could be a dodgy sensor allowing overboost

I have a waste gate then. When hooked up to the laptop it shows the valve fully open at idle, small values for percentage closed under normal drivin and if I plant my foot to the floor it closes fully so the turbo gets all the exhaust gas?

It is only at 3k revs in 5th (80mph cruising) that it usually triggers the light, if I hold it there it goes off again after a few seconds but if I lift off it will stay in limp mode until I turn off and let it sit for a while, then start up and have to rev over 4K while driving and the light comes off again so I assumed a sticky valve confusing the engine

It's worth checking the valve operation if not could be a faulty sensor giving false readings, has it been remapped if so could be a bad map

Afaik it hasn't been played with at all apart from some dodgy wiring on the sidelights.

It doesn't feel like it's been re mapped, it's slower than the 16v alternative by a fair margin.

How do I check the operation? Have had someone Rev it while I look at the valve but can't see anything happening but computer says its moving.

Never done any real work on diesel turbos and never really been interested in them
