well done a111r that could well be the cause of the problem ! I didnt know that !
I'm running a 8 meter extention wire from the house to the gardenHow far are you from your fuse box. Are you plugged straight into a socket on a ring main and are you using an extension lead at all?
To be honest I found some scrap bits in the shed and thought they were steel but it was rather thin, if I use a car body panel are these usually made from steel as I do have a old wing or a microwave casing laying aboutThis might be a daft question, is it definitely steel that you are trying to weld and not aluminum?
Someone did mention earth and I used a mold grip and clamped the wire directly on to the metal so it was a good connectionI'm not sure it will. Running the torch positive with flux cored should give more splatter?
I'm placing my bet on a poor earth somewhere, as there's no heat going into those welds.
Thanks guys I do need to practice I bought it 6 years ago and keep giving up so this time I'm determined to play around with it and get some welds done and with the lockdown in place I thought now is the best time to weld and learn, apologies for no understanding some of the welding terms I'm a newbie to the welding worldIndeed.
A lot from the real world of welding, not the www.
