Told the wife I want to be mixed with grit salt and scattered on the paths outside so I can do something useful once I'm gone.

She's going to get mine powdered and put into an egg timer so I can do something useful. I can't see anything wrong with the original post, some families like these little traditions.

Don't count on it 100%. My former neighbour and his missus didn't have kids, just a neice. They left their bodies to science and when his wife shuffled off they took her no problem. Many years later when he died aged 97 they said they didn't want him. The neice was then left hastily arranging a funeral.

There's being mixed with snuff so I can continue to get up people's noses as an option.

The ashes of Teddy my Irish Water Spaniel are on the bookcase downstairs, I can't bring myself to do anything with them as I cannot bear the thought of not being able to visit him in the future. It has been six years now and I still choke up when I think of him.

And seriously, discuss organ donation with those who might have to deal with it. Much better for everyone, including donees, to know what you want beforehand.

I think the worst thing about faceache is that so many of the online forums have moved there. I really used to enjoy photography on the net and the Nikon forums but they are as good as dead now.
I guess free hosting is attractive to those who run and moderate the place. Very sad.

Very popular around my area are Life-for-a-life memorial forests. You pay for a tree to be planted and a plaque with a message is placed. The ashes of my dad's last dog, Scooby, are buried at the tree. That is where Robbie will go when his time comes and according to his wishes my dad too. I'm going to need a bloody big name plate!

Mum & Dad expressed a wish to be scattered off the boat sailing out into the estuary. In due course we obliged, Nice sunny day boat going to windward like a train, all powered up. Dad loved sailing like this so i got the two bags of ashes out snipped the tops off & shot them over the lowest point into the stern wave.
Bad idea.
As they exited the bag they got caught in the vortex of wind coming between the two sails & shot upwards in a veritable twisting tornado of glittering dust & ashes.
It was everywhere, up my nose & ears, the cockpit was full of it. I swore mightily, Myother half had sense of humour bypass then we both started to laugh.
As the spray came aboard it turned into volcanic mud. Im sure Mum & Dad would have appreciated their final send off.
It took a year to finally wash the last of it away.

The internet is the greatest repository of knowledge and information in history.

So it's quite sad that the most popular things viewed on it are funny cat videos/pictures and pornography, and the most popular things to upload to it are photos and information on the most dull drivel in people's dull lives that no one would want to see in real life, holiday photo's, what people eat/wear etc etc.

My big old boy Blue is sat on the shelf watching over me. It cost a small fortune to have him cremated separately and put in a nice decorative box, but my daughter wanted it done, so t'was done.

We still have the ashes from all of our previous dogs, my wife can't bear the thought of doing anything with them.
Our old greyhound was bonkers for prawn crackers, soon after we lost him I came home from an evening out to find his ashes sat next to my wife's chair with a single prawn cracker sat on top, as my wife had had a takeaway that evening.
That little (meaningless to most) gesture instantly reduced me to a blubbing wreck.

Non-dog people just don't get it, I feel sorry for them. Teddy just liked the whole concept of being free to make his own choice and would run for miles, but never more than twenty feet from me.

speaking of dogs ashes. I made two. one for partners dog and one for her daughters dog. Never made anything as important (to them). Took a long time over them and they were happy with them.

I joined Facebook a few years back after @ukracer recommended a 3D printing group on there. Sorry, not for me. He remains my only FB friend I think.

Got Mum's ashes during Covid so were waiting for the right time to take her back to Eire. Then Dad got ill and said we might as well chuck him in the Shannon with Mum. Still on the to do list.

Both my parents bodies went to for medical research & doctor training. Without bodies to dissect there can be no doctors, dissection is an essential part of the training apparently. It was funny really, we went with my mother to the registrar to register the death of my father & the registrar asked in a somber way “ now my dear is it to be a cremation or burial” my mother replied “ err neither actually” you should have seen the look on the registrar‘s face, it was a picture, sort of ”are you going to have him stuffed or what”. When we explained, she said in all the years she had been doing the job, it was only the second case she had had. When Mother died, we had already explained her wishes to the nursing staff in the hospital & the doctors sorted it all out for us

I've already been forbidden, but my hope was to burry our hounds for a few years, then dig them up and do a quick caustic wash, then have their skeletons wired for the lounge.




Me? If a part of me can go towards keeping someone else alive once I've managed to die in some sort of industrial accident, why on earth would I not want that to happen?

The unique arrangement of matter and charge that gives me the illusion of a "soul" will have ceased. Why would I give a stuff beyond that? Better to gain comfort in this life that you may save a child or someone else's loved one on your own demise than accept torching all those useful parts and then what should happen to the ashes.


I mean we all talk here about how criminal it is when machines are scrapped. Even if you do believe that the consciousness goes off somewhere else, what's left is a bag of parts. Why specify that your machine should be scrapped when it's parts could repair someone else's? If we were talking cast iron and steel evreyone would agree that's crazy talk, but the moment it's kidneys or lungs people get all possessive and would rather they go on the fire.

Seems like insanity to me.

The problem with lung transplants is you spend the first couple of weeks coughing up someone else's phlegm.
