When to take the plunge.

As mentioned before I am halfway through the intro to welding course. We will not be doing tig at all, there is a pro follow up course, mig mainly as folk don't want stick c&g. I am busting to get going on tig but the relevant course may not kick off until September
Should I wait or just get a tig and start practising?? I don't want to buy kit too soon for it to be sat about with the warranty running out but I want to move forward. Bearing in mind I have never tigged a thing.
I hope to do some gas brazing this week at college to move along a bit, have done before but 20 years ago.
I have been offered a go on a couple of tig sets belonging to people I have met recently and can get scrap off cuts . I really want to do ally work but may want to run before I walk....
Whatever set I buy needs to be able to work off domestic plug so I can work at home for now

Take up the offers to use others kit....The practical parts can be learned outside of college,there are many self taught "tiggers" here..

Yes take up the free offers of using other peoples tig sets to see how you get on with it,
you're wisely not trying to run before walking and going straight into ac/ali welding as this requires more operator skill, this could give you the feeling of failure as it can be very difficult for a tig beginner.
Assuming you get to grips with tig i'd get your own tig asap so when you do start the course in september you have a good insight from the start.

Our local college are not running a tig course until September "IF" they get enough interest they informed me today...... They seem more interested in pushing the Pro welding C & G courses. Frustrated

I'm self taught also but had lots of gas experience so picked it up very quickly, As others have said using others kit would bet you going but in my opinion you can't beat having your own setup.
