Two wheeled barrows are the devils work, he took a perfectly balanced single wheeled one that can be used across mud, hardcore, and side slopes at speed, through narrow doorways and up into skips on a single plank then tipped and spun round with a rather balletic fluid movement to be pulled back down behind the happily whistling and rather smug worker, and ruined it.

id used it for years and was still in good nick to say it had been left outside upside down

only reason why it got damaged is my brother and mixing cement in it and pushing down the front before lifting the heavy cement to shovel mix it as it buckles the bottom flat layer and the other reason they couldnt even be bothered to wash the cement out of it at the end of the day

my pet hate used it when nice and clean came back damaged and full of cement

Well, when I was much much younger and really crazy my first job in the construction industry was pushing a wheelbarrow, I had a good strong barrow. Nowadays I have a cheap barrow cost me thirty quid (might have been forty) from Pauls Tools in Stalybridge. I have just this last week, been thinking about actually using it too. A £200 wheelbarrow, although it might last me 200 years, would be a complete waste. I think the last time I used a wheelbarrow was when I wheeled this one out of the van and up the path and that would be four or five years ago.
I too like "the best" tools for the job but sometimes reality has to kick in. Reality says if I buy a new £40 wheelbarrow every five years that is 20 years and £200 and I won't cry buckets if it ever gets stolen. By all means if you use a wheelbarrow daily, get a real good one, but if, like me, you avoid such contraptions like the plague, buy what works, just for the moment.

Had this one over 30years. Patched it up a year or two back and gave it a coat of bitumen paint still going strong. Its now been joined by two skip finds i now have three in the fleet. I cant leave a barrow in a skip not at £60 a pop when it takes little effort to fix them up. Such an underated tool but for practical types like us. Invaluable.

I currently have one ,two wheel given to me just needed new wheels,that I had,plus another two wheel that I bought,both of which I prefer when my back’s aching,now the one wheeler is 13 years old,within 3 years the skip had a hole in and I’d replaced the wheel with an old 8” trailer one,this year my workman made a new skip(on my instruction), he used 2mm,then wrapped a 6 mm rod to give an edge. Triggers broom? When your tired,you can at least drop a 30 kg lump in without fear.

I now predict it’ll last another 13 years.

Living next door to an inert material land fill site that had twenty or so rigid tipper trucks coming in a day from big building projects I used to collect dead brickies wheel barrows that had had wrecked tubs .

Removed the tubs and ground off any unwanted bits then put a 25 x 5 mm square double L shaped frame on it with the upstand of them above the front wheel added some same sized supports and tacked on some shoes to the feet them slipped a strong galv weld mesh on both arms of the L to make a honey moving barrow , six full national sized supers of honey are about 200 pound in weight and stick up about 33 inches . Initially I pumped each tyre with a can of puncture repair gunge as pushing the barrow laden over cut brush wood to my car & trailer usually shredded pneumatic wheels with ease , later barrows got the neoprene tyres and two barrows got double front wheels on a proper bearings short axle

Best barrow I've ever had was belle paid around 220 quid about 5 years ago, the old man nearly had a heart attack when I told him the price. Unfortunately it was pinched off a drive in North London back to the £60 ones now

Find me Chillingtons at £20 and I'll buy three, they are £60 last I saw for sale.

Be quick, they only have two left.
I've had them before, and they come scratched/dented, but then again its a wheelbarrow, not a rolls royce.

I did some truly apalling bodges on wheelbarrows years ago for someone with a riding stables, they were surprisingly expensive originally, made in Sweden or something, and obviously they didn't want to keep buying new ones.
Slight snag tho,by the time i'd finished welding random bits of angle etc all over them they weighed about twice their original weight ,and the girls that had to use them started moaning about how hard they were to push

That tends to be my style ..

I also made a couple of complete barrow frames from scratch entirely out of v.sturdy angle, these would probably last a couple of hundred years, but as i recall the stable girls absolutely refused to use 'em
