whats this tool called ?

seen people using a tool for porting heads and such like

its like a rod with a slot in it and you get a roll off abrasives and cut off a bit and wrap on the end of the bar

anyone know what im on about...sounds cheaper than keeping buying dremel sanding drums

youd get a roll of paper and cut a bit off everytime you need a new bit

wouldnt know where to get the paper in thin widths either? unless you cut down a bigger sheet?

you can but emery paper in rolls, ive got some 20mm wide, you can easily make a tool for it to fit in too, surely?

i think it will use emery cloth as the cloth type is more flexible and wouldnt break up as quick as paper

You won't be porting any heads with that arrangement ! Even proper flap wheels as per here , http://www.rightlines.ltd.uk/Spindle-Mounted-Flap-Wheels.aspx , will struggle to remove material very quickly.

yeah we use those at work, just get a long 6mm bolt cut the head off and cut a slot down the end then slot in the ermery cloth, put it in a drill .
great for removing corrosion out of seized sliding brake calipers on bikes!

Not the brake piston bores though!

Try searching for 'carbide burr' air an air die grinder if you are looking to port some heads.

For the rolls of emery cloth, you can get them in all the usual places - MSC J&L, Cromwells etc. Google is your friend.

I use the bolt with a slot in it[hemi intake manifold bolts are good;-)] for polishing with emery cloth. I have used 13" of silver steel instead of a bolt.
You could buy cartridge rolls.

if your porting heads you want carbide burs for removing the metal and youl need to finish with cartridge rolls ive tried the rod with emmery wraped around but when spinning it just all gets thrown outward filling the port and obstricking the view of work . cartridge rolls are the way forward and the choice of the prof
