whats this tape?

cant think of a good example really....maybe some elec goods , new cars etc have a thick ish protective tape thats stuck down well , but pick at an edge it peels off instantly with no residue , maybe like to stop a door jamb getting scuffed on a new car ?

any ideas what its called , i could use some myself

I think Helicopter tape is probably a bit thicker and stronger than what the OP means.

It'll be one of many variety of tapes with temporary adhesive that is designed to be easily removed.

maybe something like screen protector then , just held on with soapy water . like old fashioned sun strips.

takes some effort to remove doesnt it? stuff im on about peels off effortlessly

The blue stuff? Low tack but quite thick.

Used to use it packing artworks, knew it as glass tape.

If you have experience with it you already know that it's easier to cut the wires than trying to remove it

I got a new fridge in which all the loose parts were secured with a blue tape... seems quite sticky without being tacky, if that makes sense.

There are thick tapes for sandblasting mask usage, one brand called "buttercut".
Vinyl sign/decal people run them thru their CNC cutters to make masking pieces.
