I was on a romantic walk on the beach behind Port Talbot steel works. Fabulous beach all to ourselves when my friend spotted this.
Can anybody identify it.

looks like morse taper with either endmill or drill holder with 2 bolts in side

Looking at its cast appearance I would say its meant to go on the end of a wooden stick

If it's lead it could be the end of a sounding line for depth, it certainly is the right shape and size but they used to be hollow in the base and wax filled so they could tell what the sea bed type was by the condition of the wax when retrieved.

I'm a Chemical Engineer. That's an interesting sight to me. Not many would agree given the comments that have been made about my beautiful refinery spoiling the view from the National Park.

But then I'm odd.

I used to love Druridge Bay with it view of Lynemouth Colliery spoil heap.
