Whats this measuring/marking thing called?

Came in a ox of stuff. Looks well made, but no makers marks.
I guess it's just for recording a distance between 2 points, like a caliper, but what's it called?

Also useful for scribing a circle on a piece of metal as a guide for cutting. Have a homemade one sitting in the workshop.

Maybe I'll use it. Most likely I'll forget I have it though, and if I do remember and want to use it, I'll have forgotten where it is!

The main use of the trammel was the measurement or setting out of distances too large for dividers. The beam compass is used in a similar manner for marking large diameter circles.
