I have some mild steel laying around that would be suitable for practicing, but it’s pretty rusty. Not flaking or anything like that, just been sitting around for 8 years or so. I cleaned it up with an angle grinder and I’m sure it’ll be fine for practice. Problem is the angle grinder is pretty aggressive and it’s changing the shape of the metal a bit. Not drastically, again, ok for practising, but more than I would like if I was actually making something.
What do you guys use to clean metal up? Is there something more gentle I could use or do I just have to be more careful?
