I'm pretty sure this a type of tapping machine, was wondering what it's worth???

I sold one similar but it was all contained in a one piece floor standing aluminium casting for £160, I made more money selling the loads of Jacobs Flex Collets that I got with it!

Does it auto-reverse? There's this one on ebay and , no offence, it looks a bit nicer than yours, only £145 so I doubt you will get much for it, maybe around £100.

Well it's no good for use in a workplace, so you are looking at the DIY market only, and who there would want a tapping machine?

In my hands it would be an automatic tap snapper, I seem to have a talent for it

It has a double cone drive so I'd say it was definitely an auto reversing tapping machine, but oddly I can't see how you bring the quill down. Worth noting, before it contacts the hole to be tapped, it should be running backwards. Normally it then reverses and bores down through the hole, then again as soon as you let go.
I disagree on the use in the workshop thing, if you regularly need to tap small holes, these things are invaluable. Far more accurate than doing it by hand, infinitely quicker and you never have one that goes in at an angle. As for money, at least £100 I would have thought. Set it up, tap some holes, then sell it properly.

The eBay one has about twice the throat clearance, what are you on about.

It uses the variable speed type method IE the chuck goes up and down automatically and once the chuck has reached its potential down threshold it automatically reverses back upward.

Must say I can't see a speed regulation in this and that motor seems quite a hefty one.

I'm thinking this is a DIY jobby?

I have a really old tapping machine, driven by what looks like an old fashioned dentists drill type mechanism with a belt going in all directions at once. It spins very fast indeed and I was terrified the first few times I used it but it works perfectly, and sooo fast. That really doesn't look diy to me.

That's what I was thinking from the base looking like a drill press turned around and the case not looking very square.

Yes it does, no offence taken, somebody dropped it round the other day and said "you can have it if you can use it or sell it" but its no good to me really

What size motor is it? And any chance of a builders mug? Mine is three phase, which is a nuisance, although it is very smooth and the motor is a staggering...1/6th horsepower!
