whats is worth oxford oil cooled arc

im a bit short on funds and i have my eyes on some guide tools to help me plasma cut more accuratly, so i was thinking of getting rid of my arc welder

its massive and too big for my workshop to be practical to be honest

just wondering whats its worth, there is one nearly identicle on ebay. its going for good money but im not sure wether there was anything special about it or someone has auction fever

its like this - this one is on 120 at the moment

Prices are odd.

I bought my Airco for almost nothing. I have seen about 6 more on ebay. Some at $200 US that did not sell, others for $600-$900.

It depends on the local market. Shipping costs make it local only. If you get 2-3 local bidders the price can go way up.

The ad makes a difference. Mine was listed with very little information, no statement if anything worked; a crappy picture and a udescriptive title.

Would be worth doing a decent ebay ad. A good, reliable arc unit keeps its value, especially with the modern inverter units being unreliable or expensive.

That looks a real beauty my friend, makes my little clark 190 Arc look weedy, I admit, I covet it jealously . I prefer the older machines when it comes to arc. I learned to Arc weld at college on a similar huge old thing. If i had not just ordered a MIG I would have offered you a price, but ill be a little short of the old cash for a few weeks now. Im sure someone with a bit of an idea on prices will be of help. I hope you get a good deal.

A *very* rough guide is £1/amp. Although as has already been mentioned, on eBay it really depends on the level of local interest given the weight of these beasties.

Old Oxfords are great machines, reliable, well there isnt exactly much to go wrong. The major disadvantage is they are not exactly portable, great if you are welding from a static position. They also have excellent duty cycle, which isn't found on small portable machines, which the exception of some high quality inverter units. The likes of the air cooled type clarke arc welders have a low duty cycle at higher amperages, which can be annoying as hell when it cuts out. Always worth a few quid as a cheaper alternative to an inverter

Get it for sale on the forum . One of our boys must have a use for it. Don`t use Ebay. I had a scary experience the other night on there.

Was bidding on an item and I got that orrible cross thing and the salutory "You`ve been
outbid". Ever looked across to the right of screen at this time ? Well there was this help menu and first piece of advice was "How did this happen"? Eh lemme think!! There`s another guy in the auction who is a Medium?
