It wasn't a bad site if you kept to the rules it was a big place you wouldn't of been there when they told us they didn't like the some of the office space and to rip the lot out oh and this ace rooms yeah 500m2 needed to be ripped out for them so they can have air con in them it was a funny place oh rip it out it ok like a lil demoltion even better when you've got good labor to cleen up after

I had to laugh at a local steel firm that bought a load of scrap ATMs, they thought the safes were made from 4 inch thick steel, but when they melted them down they were skins filled with concrete!

I got the computers out of them and recovered the gold, which was nice.

To get back to the health and safety nonsense......

I am an A&E Consultant, you may have noticed a lot of stuff in the media about Doctors watches and shirt sleeves being filthy and killing their patients.

I am of course exaggerating, but the number of H&S infection control numpties patrolling the hospital makes it seem as though my watch could kill.

So whenever I am seeing patients I take my watch off roll up my sleeves, and if I dared wear one into work, take my tie off as well.

I have had my handwashing checked twice in the last week.

I bleached my watch, just in case I forgot to take it off - Omega Seamasters appear not to be resistant to Tesco own brand bleach, need a £90 bezel to fix it!

I wear short sleeved shirts or scrub suit tops when I am seeing patients.

Yet they are still not happy.

They sent someone to supervise our cleaner while she cleaned the staff toilet - in case she needed retraining.

They do random sneaky audits on handwashing.

And they STILL DON'T MAKE THE F***ING PATIENTS CLEAN THEMSELVES BEFORE THEY COME.

I am convinced that the majority of the so called hospital aquired infections are on the punters before they arrive, but apparently if we swab them to check if they have something nasty on arrival, we found it, so we must have caused it!

As promised, I shall get back to H&S.

We have a staff room, with a sink, kettle etc. The hospital uses special microfibre to clean, not detergent, but our senior nurse is made of special stuff, so she ordered some FLASH multisurface cleaner. You can buy it from Tesco to use at home.

The infection control numpty spotted it being used and said "has that had a COSHH assessment done, it's not safe to use, you can't use it"

And people complain that the NHS costs too much, get rid of the management parasites!

Spent a great day at my workshop today, good old fashioned smelly bog, and I was covered in muck off the underside of the car by the time I finished. Makes me feel human!

the hospital in dumfrise the've got achol gel at the resption and wipes i've spent many a day in there from nasty cuts from partion studs or a screw bit in the hand from rubbish screws i agree with drjim nhs is running its self into the ground because of them types it's silly the hse's are trying to rap the world in foam padding you know just in case there has to be some form of safety to stop plp getting killed but with all the idots out there who don't have a clue some one will get hurt or killed working in manchester and the safety rep for amec got killed with a pallet of brease blocks that fell 15 floors that was due to the fact that there was no brick gards on the host but because of the brickie that was hosting up the block and him removing the gards and not making sure the host wasn't stepped and wasn't rushing to get the block off the host he wouldn't of snaped the ties and chris wouldn't of been killed

and he had on all his ppe hat glasses hi vis boots with mid sole plate in gloves

like i said there's so much they can do but lack of common sence and supidty thats when plp get hurt

I can recall having to do a COSHH assessment for Tippex once, though given it was before it went all tame and water soluble, perhaps it was a wise idea

we have to do coshh for acoustic inumet mastic and meths (use it on the grid to get rid of finger prints)

You ever got the urge to say "hey go and sit on it for an hour and come back to me" only go to a&e if i can't stop any thing bleeding or if i black out after hitting my head think thats a good rule

The worst places are the MOD ones.

The funniest one I can remember was visiting a BNFL site, name had to be on list for that day, car searched and contents logged by AEC police, informed of various alarms for fire or neuclear disaster, then escorted all day while on site.
Time to leave site, my escort said "you can find your own way to the gate", when I got there police just waved me through!

If you use 'professional' cleaning stuff, you can get the COSHH information from the manufacturer. I had all this when I worked at McDonalds. All the approved McD cleaning stuff has the COSHH information, but the franchise owner kept bringing in dodgy stuff from CostCo as it was cheaper.
