Or even the couple of the other cheap machine i have used in the past, like nuarc, or evebn the cheap single phase migatronics.

What's the typical carriage cost for a welder? Could do a back to back against the Portamig 181 if it'll stop all the friendly bantering.

I'd be keen to give it a try, though probably best to wait a few weeks for my current contract to finish - realised I've hardly picked up a welder over the last few weeks. Shall send you a message in a few weeks to see if you are still up for it.

First of all to answer the question. I`m happy with Portamig and thank God I bought it as that is my Mig purchase put to bed and I can buy other things.

I use my mates Murex 240 which is bigger and more expensive. I don`t notice any real difference.............and certainly none that I would pay the price difference for. I think we all know Steve has sold us the Portamigs.......somebody would have sold us something else anyway and we are all happy with performance and sales service when we need it . Anyone is welcome to try out my 210.............but bring your own friggin gas lol.

I like to hear the dealers having a go.............can`t beat a good contest....

I wish I'd found this site before taking the plunge and buying a SIP machine a year or so ago, I haven't really used it in earnest yet, just the odd bit, but probably would have bought Clarke based on recommendations from this site, seems to be better at same price point. A Portamig is probably out of my range and unnecessary for the odd bit of welding I do but you never know

I've never really 'sold' the Portamig, it all happened by chance really. Malcolm was the first to take the plunge, was impressed, and the word spread. If you could physically see the machines side by side with all the other stuff on the market you would buy one, but it's difficult to decide with pictures & un-impressive spec.sheets. Recommendation is the best form of business & I will settle for that.
