Hello people! Good forum, like you said 'friendly' opposed to most forums which reply telling you 'use the search function' when a clueless guy like me asks stupid questions.
Right. I'm fitting a mk3 polo engine into my mk1 golf and need to fabricate a gearbox mount. Basically cutting both standard ones in half and welding them together. Don't know exact thickness, no larger then 3mm I'd assume.
I'm 19 and am going to uni to do motorsport technology, whether work or hobbie I'm going to need and want a welder. Am after something versatile, able to weld different materials, different thicknesses.
As you can tell I know little, to nothing at all about welding. Mig, tig, arc, gasless I'm not to clued up. Just need to know what sort of welder is best for my use bearing in mind it's bound to be just for occasional diy use, I am willing to save and spend a bit more to get something worth while.
A mechanic I know is going to teach me or I'll do a course.
What welder should I be looking at and how much ish will I be spending Inc consumables and safety gear?
Thanks guys,
Dom
