When I changed the clutch on my bmw bike it seemed scary to me just how little torque was needed for some fasteners I had to buy a small torque wrench because my normal one didn't go down low enough.

torques...The scariest to follow are steel 6mm into ally casings. Apart from critical stuff like head gaskets or flywheel bolts, i like to feel my way in by touch

Exactly, torque settings only needed for head bolts and bottom end work, and head bolts have them on the packet. The settings in the Haynes book are only correct at time of printing and don't factor in changes in repair procedure (pug xudt changing to Mls gasket for example)... Waste of time getting a book in my experience.

my old renult 5 GTT used to pop head gaskets for fun till the one day i was that ****** off with doing headgaskets on it i din't bother torqueing it down just gunned it down FT with the rattel gun, that headgasket held - sods law
