What type of nut is this

I am after a load of these for another one of my hobbies and hate having to spend 2-3 quid for 2 and a bit of threaded rod.
Anyone know what the nuts are called? Picture is enlarged, the original pieces are under 1/4" in size

The other option is getting some made, anyone know of a decent cheap custom nut maker. Someone posted one a while ago, I have hunted for it, but I guess I am typing the wrong thing in the search box.

They are used a lot for securing knife handles but I don't think you are going to find them a lot cheaper than the price you mention in your post. They are called a Corby fastener or a similar thing is a Loveless fastener.

That's exactly what I am using them for, but they are expensive for what they are.
I may end up using brass pins if I can find 4mm or 6mm brass rod cheap.

Unfortunately, stud connectors have a hole a both ends, I need a threaded hole one end and a slot the other.

I'm not sure what they are called, that's if they actually have recognised name at all.

Nut and bolt manufacturer wont want to deal in small quantities, they will only be interested in tens of thousands.


The good news is i have just the machines for that style of job, I run 2 automatic lathes in my place capable of 1/16" to about 1 5/8" OD. It's an easy job for machines like that.

That's a classic case of rip of England. If those are sold to the public in quantity they will most likely me made on multi spindle wickman's, which will throw out one part per the longest cycle time. If i can gauge size by the pic that would probably be one part every 4 seconds, so about 900 an hour. So at a rough calculation, who ever gets them made in bulk would be paying under 10p each

If you want to send me some details or simple drawing/sample and quantities i can get you some prices worked out.

I'm curious what are they used for? (Ignore question already answered while posting)

6mm brass rod from B&Q for £8.48 per metre if you want it easily available. If you want to order a batch of knife stuff try brisa or moonraker for supplies. Pins are mostly decorative nowadays with epoxy adhesive doing the securing. I've done a few hidden tangs with no pins at all but I haven't done anything for a while now. Here's a couple of mine, one in progress and a little folder

I don't buy it, I just point out that it's easily available from there. That is brass rod and you are showing threaded mild steel bar. I buy threaded bar or stud from my local bolt supplier for pennies when I need it. A metre of M6 is about 50p.

Looks very good mate.
Put in an order for an Aly Grinder just before Christmas, so hopefully i will be able to make some decent knives soon.
Are you on britishblades forum, as I am sure I recognised someones username on there and not sure if it was yours?

I joined britishblades just before xmas, have lurked on and off for a few years. I got hold of a few very large Circular saw blades to make some knives with esp a Parang

Have seen that website before while looking for buffalo horn.
Damascus is very nice, but no good for me at the moment, as I have never made a knife before, it would be an expensive mistake if I cocked up.
