I have found out today the training manager wants me to take the PAT testing (in house course) to 4 days and 1 day of exams.

Going on an asbestos awareness course today! It's at the companies yearly seminar where they tell us how well their doing and how many self entered awards they've won.
It must be good as 30% of the electricians have left in the last 6 month's.....

I'm not planning any formal training but I'm currently attempting to get my programming/scripting skills back up to what they were, which wasn't great but things have moved on so much in the last decade or so. Just writing my heating controls to replace the crap ones that came with the underfloor heating, I've just about got a working prototype. Web programming for the front-end is the hardest bit, I'm using what they call a "micro-framework" which is supposed to make creating web sites with authentication, email, database access etc. easier but it takes a while to get your head around it. There's loads of tutorials on t'internet so cheap to do, just takes time. so the weekly commute to London is ideal.

My mentor at the Mine did his HNC in the 60's there was only 11 people in the country who completed the course and passed !!

I think you worded that badly or something because I know three people who qualified hnc in the sixes.

re HNC/HND the difference is purely down to how many "units" you complete and at what level, it's nothing to do with full time or part time.

I did a 4 1/2 year apprenticeship and ended up with a HNC (Couple of units shy of a HND, I did look at upgrading it but other things got in the way, i.e I couldn't be bothered), others on the same apprenticeship scheme but in different intakes have ended up with HND as a couple of the courses attracted higher weighting of units due to EDEXEL moving the goalposts, some years even ended up with a foundation degree.

A few machine tickets need refresher courses this year and I am doing my operators CPC so I am not at the mercy of my current transport guy.

Not many pictures in this and a 75% failure rate Sympathy please and plenty of it.

Not welding related, but I'm doing a IT related certification, 2 grand of my own money for the exam alone for the cert if I pass first time (and I know people who've had to do it four times). Hopefully it will be a good future investment - it'd better be, its only valid for 3 years then I have to redo it.

I like the sound of the certified penetrator qualification they offer, I'm particularly keen to do the practical sessions

If you met some of the characters you encounter in pen test companies who would be assessing you, you'd quickly revise that view
The practical component takes a entire day and costs 1600 quid too, its cheaper to find a high quality brothel
