just thought i'd ask if anyones made a useful tool, along the same lines as shenion's metal folder.........bead roller/tube bender/guillotine?

any pic's, i made a engine lift out of ab&q trolley and an old car trolly jack and some of cuts of steel worked good for what i needed at the time

I haven't got an overall pic, I'll try to find some time to tidy up a bit and take some.
Im halfway through building a mandrel bender out of a old car axle, no pics yet though and I really must get back to it. I adapted a numberplate roller into a bead roller by making up male and female forms on the lathe, but I gave that a friend when I moved to france, as I did a lot of weird stuff.
Often lots of small and weird oddments are made in chez fluffy quick and dirty to get a job done...
I fancy a parking lift one day, but its probally cheaper to buy a old car lift and modify it...

I would have built an engine hoist and leveler, but they are now cheaper that I could buy materials. They also fold up and portable.
The sheet metal bender was the only fab tool sol far. Have modified some tools like a car valve spring compressor that works on motorcycle heads.

Mith i own a record No. 8 vice which is older than me and still works great, and your right the chinese ones are junk that break. I wouldn't think twice about putting a bit of 5/8 inch /16mm bar in the vice and beating it over. Nothing like a good big old vice that can hold something whilst you abuse it with a hammer

Darren, that vise I made replaced a record No6. The No8's are really pricey! You are lucky to have one. I couldnt even find one second hand. You can still get all the bits to rebuild the records. I rebuilt a No3, cost less than a chinese one, and its way better too.
Gotta have a decent vise, no workshop should be without one.

Being eternally skint 
and having lots of time and access to free stuff at the last job I had ,I made quite a few bits and bobs:Engine crane,load leveller,Car ramps,Slip rolls,2 Benders(1 Hydraulic).I made an engine stand as well but that got 'recycled' after using it for the car I was working on at the time.Most of it was made from plans found on the net or just by copying the design of stuff in the pictures on Machine Marts website
I'm going to have a go at a bead roller next when I lay my mitts on some decent plate.
