The plastic are screw on faces, are they not?
This type, I do have a replacement plastic face direct from Thor for a 3lb copper hide hammer I was given with a broken handle and worn out hide, definitely no screw threads on the plastic face, I'm going to make it fit in place of the hide even though I'm not sure it is the correct side.
It replaces the hide part, well that's where i fitted the plastic head on my thor no3.

well just got my thor no 2 out today and the leather fell out 
i popped the leather in a cup of water for a few minutes and got the gorilla glue out spread a bit round the socket and then put the leather face in the glue goes off real good when the surfaces are wet stuck it in the vice with a bit of pressure and 3 hours later solid as a rock 
the leathers nice and soft again might put some leather oil on it as well or saddle soap

The varnish was intact on the leather face. So I sanded that off with a flap wheel and bashed it on concrete for a bit.
No change still loosy goosey.
Hence its getting a 1 week spa
I will report back on findings in 1 week.
I will rebottle the oil of course.

Do you need the tool shown on their website to fit a plastic head in. place of of a hide?
I used a bearing inner race to open it, pushed the plastic in and then hammered it tight in a v block.
seemed too tight to just ram it in

My Thor hammer is still soaking. I checked it 2 days ago and it's still a little loose but seems better.
It'll need another week or two I reckon to tighten the leather back up the way it was when new. I could boil it to expedite the process I guess but I'm in no hurry either.
