What to look for in an aftermarket oil cooler and where to find one?

My 655C backhoe has a few leaks. One looks to be from the hydraulic oil cooler - not 100% sure yet as I need to clean it up and confirm the leak is there.

Anyway - got to thinking about replacing it and thought, 'well, its just an oil cooler, the machine isnt worked hard, surely any aftermarket one that can be made to fit will do... rather than the $800ish new ones seem to sell for?'

Then i started thinking a bit more and suspect it isnt that simple. The current cooler isnt like a normal radiator - with flat 'tubes' between the side tanks. It has a series of what look like 8mm (ish) diameter tubes that run between the side tanks - you can see it here - https://gulfsouthequip.com/product/ford-555-cd-cooler/ (and the price of new). I guess flow rate matters which may be why the tubes are 8mm rather than the flatter setup in a normal coolant rad? Anyone hazard a guess as to what the flow rate for a 655C backhoe would be?!

Can anyone suggest any aftermarket alternatives that dont break the bank?

Is it possible to recore these?

Been trying to visualise a similar setup for a mates CNC lathe, which is an old Hardinge Talent.
Very crotchety about temperature, especially of the hydraulic oil.
We're getting some general zonal temperatures, but it's most likely the oil that needs to be stabilised.

Anything aftermarket will do as long as it can cope with the flow rate and dissipate the heat. Targets look like 32 gallons per minute and 61kw.

Also don't forget to change/inspect the hydraulic return filter/system to tank, once had another service engineer who I worked with have the same problem, he replaced an oil cooler that was leaking, new cooler started leaking a couple of days later, the return filter was blocked plus the by-pass valve in the filter head was also blocked causing high back pressure.... check everything including very close inspection of the return filter for signs metal and of impending doom...

As 8ob said, flow rate, heat dissipation, plus any possible back pressure in the system.....

Ive found a new oil cooler for a Massey 50b for £100. Not sure it will work though. It looks like the Massey pumps at 15 gallons (assume imperial) per min whereas the 655 is 31gpm (think that's US). The cooler may take more flow but suspect its too small?
