In my opinion, as good as this sort of size drill gets. Not a bad price, but they come up cheaper.

That Flott is an interesting machine - looks very heavy duty. Infinitely variable speed, Flott are German I believe.
If it isn't knackered that could be a nice little bargain.

Much better to put it on an inverter and have instant reverse, jog and speed control. Here is my newer one, still not managed to finish it but persevering:

Agreed, but I had a spare motor so just swapped it out.
What's jog?
I've never needed to reverse the drill but I guess it could be handy for tapping?

Jog is where the motor advances only if the start button is pushed, very handy. Tapping on a drill press with a three phase motor and reverse is a breeze.
I had a big new meddings with a gearbox, sold it to make room for the CNC Mill. Rather wish I hadn't and had moved it somewhere else and kept it. It was the best drill I had ever owned or operated.

That reminds me - I once saw a nice little setup somewhere, with a VFD and a limit switch on the depth stop for tapping with an auto reverse. A bit like a tapping head - looked proper handy, nice little project.

I'm going to try find time to take a look at my Sealey this week with a view to trying to make improvements to it
I'm sure that the biggest problem relates to what a slack fit the spindle sleeve is in the cast iron body. It obviously needs clearance to allow it to move up and down, I reckon there's about 0.25mm, which is much more than it needs. I wonder if some shim could be inserted into the body to reduce that?

I've used Heller Co-Cobalt for years, not cheap but robust and will drill just about anything, the set I have now I bought in 2007 and bar a couple of breakages due to using in a portable drill in less than ideal circumstances, they've lasted well. Bit of a pain to sharpen and probably not 'precision' enough for some, it depends on what you want to do I suppose.

Worth inspecting the jaws and checking the condition/runout if you are that fussed - very easy to swap chucks with a drift key, and an easy win if it has taken a bit of abuse over the years.
I've found Sherwood/Zoro drill bits pretty reasonable for the price - a nice set of cobalt drills is a good shout but I'd keep them for when you need them.

As far as I know, for a long time a lot of the Sealey stuff was imported from the Eastern Bloc and many of the machine tools, though simple and basic, were reasonably well made and very good value for money.
