What to buy

I am setting up a workshop to do some car restoration. From what I have read I will be best suited to a Mig with 30A minimum. I am interested in your thoughts on these.
1) second hand Unimig 270 at $800 (almost seams too cheap RRP around $3000).

2) new razorweld dc Mig tig inverter 175 also around $800.



Any thoughts appreciated.

To answer the above, I see it being used solely in a shed so portability is not an issue. Not likely to use tig. If I was to persue the used welder I would seek advise from friends who know more than me. Both are about 150 km from where I live.

From what I have read it seems that for home handyman type use, a maximum amperage around 170 A is often recommended

The 270 amp machine is a bit overkill for car resto. How low does it go? Also have you even got an electrical outlet capable of supplying it?
I'd go so far as to say the smaller machine will do everything you need on cars and light vans, but if you end up doing work on commercial vehicles and lorries then the extra power of the larger set if you can use it will be handy.
