I mean some poplars just burn up so quick and don't give out much heat, but if you do an experiment (ie put it in the fire and see) then does it matter what genetics the tree had?

I am able to get a load of this off an estate. It is around 40 years old and some kind of fir/conifer type.
Any ideas what it is?
Given your location I would go with Scots pine .
