what tig??

hi all, thinking of buying a tig, have a portamig 235 and 2 parweld inverters (one kept in the van!) only ever done a small bit of tig hear and there so looking for something to learn on but dont want to outgrow it, hate having to upgrade tools! so must be good quality and high enough power. thinking about a kemppi (used a friends and seems a great machine). Any advice/suggestions???

What parweld inverters do you have? They may be able to do DC TIG.

Hard to say what you need without knowing a budget, if you need to weld aluminum and how much power you need.

As shenion said budget is everything, I personally have a Lorch T220 which is a cracking machine but a lot of people are unwilling to spend £2000 + on a tig.

Some forum ppl seem to like the R Tech welders and there are others, all depends on how much you want to spend and what you want to use it for ??

yeah the parweld can do dc tig but not very well, they were €300! i suppose id be wanting it mainly for stainless fabrication, noting to thick, being able to do aluminium and everything else would be no harm either. power wise, nothing huge bit as i said, wouldnt want to be held back by it, so something capeable of more then a couple mm!

Matt1978 on this forum works for Lorch and his advice and support is top notch.

I bought mine from Wasp Supplies in Luton but where you buy is up to you, Piero on this forum also has a T220.

The Lorch is very solidly made and built to last, depends on how much you want to spend at the end of the day.

It's well worth while thinking about the higher end machines as they are likely to come with a long warranty.

I recently had to use the Lorch warranty for a little problem ....it had a couple of weeks left on the 3 year warranty. Everything was sorted with no problems.

I too, as of yesterday afternoon am now the proud owner of a Lorch T220 too.. Haven't had a chance to use it yet but the quality of the unit, torch and accessories look and feel really good and durable! I just need to get some bits and pieces together to give it a whirl in a few days!

thanks for all the advice, had a look at the lorch machines, expensive, but you get what you pay for! they look great! anyone have experiences with the Kemppi Mastertig AC/DC MLS2300?? the kemppi is abit cheaper then the lorch and seems to have the same spec, but is it as reliable?

Hi,

Which front panel are you comparing? Basic Plus or Control Pro? In any case I agree they are simerla spec'd but in favour of the Lorch, its

3 yrs warranty against 2 from Kempii (How much is an additional year warranty worth to you?)

Lorch T220 is also ITC (Itelligent Torch Control) so can be used with the i-Torch.

Can drop Lorch 60 CM on to a concrete floor, so shows build quality and design.

However, in favor of Kempii, its 230 amps output, Lorch is 220.

Broadly speaking will have the same conventional features such as AC Balance, Frequency adjust, Mixed AC & DC Hybrid arc and Job store etc etc but there are subtle differences. So you have to decipher what is of use to you and what isn't. Good luck with your choice anyway, both are fantastic machines.

BTW regarding prices, give wasp supplies a ring rather than go on the website prices as the 'in person' (phone) price is normally cheaper.

Can truly recomend 100% thre lorch t220
It's one of thoughs tools that never stops putting a smile on yr face.
Quality is very hard to beat.
You won't go wrong with the lorch T220,
To be fair most people like to recommend the same as they have bought. Its a very common thing throughout all forums.
And I to am guilty of that.
But genuinely honestly it's a grate tig set. I am totally happy with what I bought.
